Charlotte McMaster

PSYCHOLOGIST
EDUCATIONAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY REGISTRAR

BA(Psych); GradDip(Psych); MPsych(Ed & Dev); MAPS

Charlotte is a registered psychologist who is passionate about supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and families through challenges in development. Charlotte enjoys working with presentations of anxiety, emotional dysregulation, mood complaints, behavioural issues, school refusal, relationship difficulties, social skill challenges, poor self-esteem, adjustment difficulties, and identity crisis. With experience in both educational and clinical settings, Charlotte prides herself on becoming an advocate for her clients by providing them with compassionate and non-judgmental care that is tailored to their needs.

Charlotte’s therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that meaningful change happens when clients feel understood, supported, and empowered. When working onsite, Charlotte likes to take therapy beyond the traditional office setting, incorporating outdoor sessions like nature walks and park adventures to enhance client engagement. When working with children, she uses creative and play-based techniques, creating a safe space for self-expression. With adolescents, she focuses on building a trusting and meaningful relationship that encourages the exploration of ‘the self’.

Charlotte draws on a variety of therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed practices, and mindfulness-based approaches. Her passion for integrative treatment drives her to consider the connection between the mind, body, and environment when supporting clients to achieve their therapy goals. Charlotte also recognises the crucial role that families, schools, and healthcare professionals play in a young person's life, so she actively collaborates with parents, teachers, and doctors when appropriate. This holistic treatment approach ensures that clients receive the support they need in all areas of their lives.

Charlotte also has a keen interest in conducting educational assessments for children and adolescents experiencing cognitive, learning, and/or behavioural challenges. Her assessment process is designed to highlight strengths, identify areas for growth, and provide practical strategies that clients, parents, and schools can implement to improve daily functioning and quality of life. As part of this process, a comprehensive report and detailed feedback is provided.

Charlotte is currently offering Telehealth services only, due to a temporary relocation. Telehealth provides increased accessibility to consistent psychological support by reducing common barriers such as busy schedules, travel time, mobility challenges, illness, or mental health symptoms that may impact regular attendance. For many clients, meeting online from the comfort of their own space, can help them to feel more relaxed, safe, and engaged in the therapeutic process.

During this period, Charlotte’s clients will not be eligible to claim a Medicare rebate. To support access to care, Charlotte is offering a reduced session fee until Medicare eligibility resumes.

Charlotte is currently working towards her endorsement as an educational and developmental psychologist and remains committed to continued learning. This ensures her clients receive the highest standard of evidence-based and developmentally informed care.

Charlotte holds registration with the Australian Board of Psychology and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
